10 Months. Party boobytrap.

First of, happy happy happy
10th Wheelie Day!
"There's only one thing, to do, three words, for you...."
:-)

Many geek friends have been keenly amused with the fact today's date is a palindrome.
01022010
So for that, I say:
Party boobytrap.

Senile felines.

Never odd or even.

Live not on evil.

Did I draw Della too tall, Edward? I did?

Tonight is the annual Yale party and I can't wait to see the geeks again.  It has been quite some time since I've been able to hang with most of them.  I still remember fondly the time I first met many of them on the photo shoot for NWA5.  Some, like Nick, I recall meeting at New Worlds Transformed (and yes, tinarayan niya ako!  Would you believe it? First impression he tells me, "Anong kailangan mo?")

Now, I am so happy to have such a healthy extended geek family to call my own.
And an Egg to have as part of my geek life.

2010, you have been fantastically wonderful so far.   Don't let up, you hear?

Day 002 of 365 Days of Geeky Happiness

Can you name them all?  Wheee!

Finally learning to cook

So far, I've discovered I have a natural knack for making sandwiches, salads and desserts.
Main dishes, however, has its hits and misses.

Ever since Rocky and I moved to Cubao, we've both promised ourselves to dive in head first into the mysterious and exciting world of cooking.  From what started out as an expedition using merely a rice cooker (thank yous to Eman and Apple for giving us their old one), we've finally progressed to getting a gas stove and learning the ropes on frying, creating soups, boiling and steaming stuff.

There was once this time in my life that I desperately wanted to learn to cook.

It all began when I caught a show on the telly one day and it was all about this thing called the Ministry of Food.  Hosted by Jamie Oliver, the show focused on a group of people whom he had taught to cook a simple yet succulent omelet then challenged them to find their own pupils to teach.  Watching the show, I found myself relating so much to the people who lamented on how they have survived on junk food and microwaveable dinners for most of their lives since they left their parents' homes.   As Jamie showed them how easy it was to actually prepare your own delicious and healthy cuisine, I found myself deeply inspired to do the same some day and promised myself that there will come a time when I too can cook my own breakfast.  Or lunch.  Or dinner.

The move to Sietch Creare became a major catalyst in reaching for this elusive dream.
Having Rocky to be both supportive and a hearty devourer of both my hits and misses was a godsend.

While we searched for the flat we were to share, I shared with him my dreams of actually cooking and to my surprise, he too had such dreams.  So we promised to each other that this was one joint dream we were to do and no matter how horrible our initial attempts may be, to always be supportive of the other.

From fresh salads and quirky ice cream desserts, I slowly attempted other things.  One failed soup, burnt egg-in-a-basket, and a too asim bistek later, I am now officially excited to see what other things I can make and enjoy.

To my surprise, so many other friends were very supportive of our dream.  Jon offered a skillet and gave us our first cookbook.  Mina, Rocky's sister, offered more recipes as well.  Pao at first offered an old gas stove for us to use, and until now excitedly checks on our updates on what new meal we cooked up.  Then, there's Nina, Rej, Paul and other friends who have been very very supportive of each endeavor.

And true enough, as Rej had warned us, now we find ourselves looking at menus at restaurants and going, "Hmm I think we can just do this at home..." and "Oh, we have to make this... this was delicious!" rather than feeling too preoccupied with the idea of just eating out.  The savings have been tremendous.  The food, healthier.

Cooking is not as horrifying as I thought it would be.

So, to celebrate this new growing skill, we've compiled and will continue to update our food gallery to share with the rest of you what we've enjoyed doing and eating so far.  Hopefully, someday, we even get to cook for more guests and give them a taste of our little preparations.

Cooking has been fantastic.  And I only hope and pray we get more food options to try with each passing day.

Birthday Celebration with the Geeks

Hit 32 years old this year. Celebrated it with the geeks of the New World Alliance. In many ways this group has become my second family, having been a source of acceptance, strength, shared joy and hilarious memories. Thank you so much for being a special part of my life, guys.

SATURDAY STATUS QUO

Already missing the work out sessions I used to have.  Arms feeling much better, and legs and thighs still screaming from the work out two days ago and last night's dancing.  It is a Saturday though, which means its gaming night with the tropa.  Another round of Vampire the Requiem to continue the tales of "The Cainite Heresy".

(Sunday to Saturday, Jan 11-Jan 17):
Gym - 4 Bar - 4

Total Tally so far:
Jan 2-Jan 17:
Gym - 9
Bar - 7

Desperately need a trim too.  Hair getting quite unruly.  Especially consdering tomorrow I will be the godfather of Oliver's kid.  Pretty excited to be able to see Oliver and his family, considering the last time I saw them was back when he and his girl got married.

Still stunned over Final Crisis #6 which featured an incredible moment in DC comics history.  Of course, there are ways around it, but it was really truly a shock to see that litmus test of a dead character done with a visual homage to the iconic cover of Crisis in Infinite Earths #7.  I just hope that Morrison has more surprises in store for us.

Frustrated I can't get my copy of Silent Hill Homecoming to work.  Just about to finish PuzzleQuest and am purchasing a copy of Left 4 Dead to be able to play both with my friends and online.  Got also a copy of Prince of Persia but am still in the process of cleaning out my desktop computer, so I can't install it there yet.

Missing loads of people too.  Stan ain't back from the hills.  Don hasn't been showing up for any gimmicks.  Neither has Sonny been visible either.  Haven't been able to hit Fandom Cafe for Fandom Live (family stuff has been cropping up on Sundays).  Miss having them ice cream runs with Mika, Mara and Chiqui.  Haven't been able to toast with Jovan, Lynn, Beejay, and Hec.  Was unable to attend the recent Yale parties too.  Haven't worked on new film projects with Dek.  Or gamed with Benny, Adrian, Adam, Nabs, Victor and so many other people.  And of course, there's Isha whom I do miss and still hope to someday visit.  The supposed 2008 reunion of the old DLSU friends didn't push through.  The other mini reunion with my ABS-CBN former officemates hasn't either.

All in all, just shows how much I got to get my act together.  Grab a planner and start marking dates.   Heck, maybe even start considering having them too.  Hahahah!

Lastly, there's the new Watchmen site where you can catch the score and hear some of the character's speak their lines.   Something to tide us over til the movie is shown on March 6.  Enjoy folks! Its a weekend, after all!

Just got home... hungry...

Just got back from making sure bestfriend Tom got home safe.
Missed the Yale party, as well as Paul's return from India.
Missed the drinking and guitar hero moments with the geeks of the New Worlds Alliance.
Missed the laugh trips and smart antics of the gang.

But in return, got to hang at O bar, see some old ADB friends,
spend some time with dOor bitch Grace who imparted on me valuable
words of wisdom.

Hope you're out there enjoying the sweat and salt water.

I'm chugging down a C2 to rehyrate.
Only had 2 red horsies today.  Had a glass of OJ instead as my third drink.
Funny though.  I paid compared to when I get three brewskies!

Anyway, time to snag some breakfast.
Its Sunday!  I wonder who'll be going with me to O bar tonight.
Need sleep though.  Gym waits for me this afternoon.
