Happy Valentine's Day

Cold fruit coated in sweetened chocolate.
That is all I have to mark today.

While the rest of the world celebrates with roses, hearts and quiet dinners,
I sit before my computer and type a pathetic poem:
the words don't flow as smoothly now
not since we drifted apart.

Cold fruit, near frozen, patiently wait on the plate
knowing my teeth would soon come
to bite away their skin
and leave them naked, partly devoured, and bleeding
sweet nectarine juices.

I feel like the fruit.

Naked.
Partly devoured.
Bleeding.

If only I had a sweet warm chocolate embracing me as well.
