ASTIG! Using fonts only. Made me smile!

Ever wondered how creative you can get using only fonts?  Check out the Morisawa FontPark 2.0 and find out!

The site uses flash and its pretty cool what others have come up with using the website.  Makes me wish I had that keen an eye for creative detail.

THAT TIME OF THE YEAR AGAIN

Every Christmas, my family and my dad's classmates of DSLS host a Christmas party for the scholars we have been financing through high school at La Salle Lipa.  Last year, a number of you were kind enough to help out and many others wanted to but just admitted they heard about it too late to help.

So here's the early call then:

We currently have one batch of successful graduates!

And we have around 30 new students (a number of them for each batch of High school) who would need our help!

So to all of you out there, if you want to help out in making Christmas again special for these kids, do let me know.

It doesn't take much.  Either just add to the cash fund which I promise to use to purchase stuff for the kids and their families (last year, we were able to ensure each of them had Spaghetti for Noche Buena, among other things) or simply plan out a donation of ANYTHING for up to 30 individuals.  And yes, I will say now it will be far easier for you to simply donate.

30 notebooks?
30 planners?
30 cans of corned beef?
30 pouches of juice?

I'm excited hoping to hear from the first batch of graduates too.  Will let you know when I get more information.

Thanks people!

My Sassy Girl - the American remake

Rating:★★
Category:Movies
Genre: Romantic Comedy
It was painful to go through.

I love Jesse Bradford and have always enjoyed watching him in different roles. He shines here, as the poor mistreated guy who just happens to have saved the formerly-unnamed-sassy-girl-but-since-this-is-an-American-remake-had-to-be-given-a-whole-complete-name played by Elisha Cuthbert. Elisha Cuthbert fails utterly, however, to play the female lead role in any way that is utterly endearing or convincing.

Seriously.

Even in the scene with her playing piano and Jesse showing up with a single rose felt flat, forced and sadly scripted.

Gone were the poignant touches of emotion and bonding. Gone were the naive growing attraction to one another which seemed unthinkable at first. Gone were her infamous likes "You wanna die?" and her strange horrible anger towards anyone wearing a certain color. Gone too was the mystery of what made her so sassy and angry and instead we are left with a rich blonde fuck up of a gal who we forcibly HAVE to feel for after her long drawn out letter explains in absolutely unnecessarily long exposition why she is such a bitch.

And yes, in the first scene Jesse sees Elisha, he is talking about wanting to have sex with her.

So wtf?!?!??!

Gone was the main theme song.
Gone was the hilarity of the amusement park sequence.
Gone was the immensely touching scene when they meet the other guy.
Gone were the high school uniforms and the perfect comic timing shown by ianna Jun (aka Ji-hyun Jun) and Tae-hyun Cha with perfectly wonderful dialogue like this:

The Girl: You know why the sky is blue?
Kyun-woo: Because the reflection from the sunshine causes...
The Girl: Wrong! It's to make me happy. I wanted it to be blue, so it's blue. You know why fire is hot? It's all for me. I wanted it to be hot, so it's hot. You know why we have four seasons here in Korea?
Kyun-woo: For you?
The Girl: Correct.

The movie has some saving graces however.

The art direction was superb, with great choices for some scenes. While they replaced "The Shower" of Hwang Sun-won with the Titanic movie instead as the reason "all ________ love sad movies", the visual style for the movie scene was nice. Horrid beyond belief was the western sequence they used to replace the "bounty hunter samurai" sequence. But other moments like the part where Jesse is against a wall with a huge arrow pointing at him, and such were nice.

Lighting was horrid. In one particular scene, Jesse is in class when Elisha shows up to tell the professor some reason to get him OUT of class. Guess what! One single spotlight was on, illuminating Jesse amidst a room of other students. Sobrang obvious naman na set-up.

Then the struggles to adjust the beautiful scenes into a New York context were painful. The mountain confessional was instead the length of the Central park walkway.... which was plain boring to watch. The catching up with one another at the train, as well as the goodbye scene at the train just fell flat. The soldier sequence seemed boring rather than amusing.

And again, no high school uniform dance!
No high school uniform dance!
No high school uniform dance!
No high school uniform dance!

Kasi, wala silang high school uniform sa USA.

Hay.

If you have NEVER seen the original Korean My Sassy Girl, watch this. You'll probably like it cause it does retain some level of the message the original wanted to impart. Be warned however, the American version LOVES to spoon feed as usual. So where you'd have a nice silent moment shared by the characters in the original moment, you'd have all this unnecessary voice over dialogue in the American one explaining one or the other.

Hay.

So there's my rating. 2 stars.
Simply because this movie may interest others to find the original one.

Oh and here's the 10 simple rules from the original.
The American remake fucked it up too.

Kyun-woo: The 10 Rules: 1. Don't ask her to be feminine 2. Don't let her drink over three glasses 3. Drink coffee instead of Coke/Juice 4. If she hits you, act like it hurts. If it hurts, act like it doesn't 5. On your 100th day together, give her a rose during her class 6. Make sure you learn fencing and squash 7. Be prepared to go to prison sometimes 8. If she says she'll kill you, don't take it lightly 9. If her feet hurt, exchange shoes with her 10. She likes to write. Encourage her

RANT part deux - Typhoon Ah!

My greatest apologies to all my friends who were or are still unfortunately "affected" by the Typhoon Ah!

As my friends know by now, someone whom I used to be so patient and helpful towards has now become an annoying and frustrating entity in the world.  And sadly, to my understanding, he has still sent a few other friends of mine (including some who sadly fell prey to the curiosity that killed the proverbial cat and checked out his page) unwarranted and unwanted messages be it in the form of private messages, guest book postings et al.

Once again, I apologize to all those who were affected by this unnecessary onslaught.

And here's hoping and praying he eventually realizes his stupidity, selfishness and absolute failure to treat his friends properly has cost him a friendship he can never ever repair.

I feel sad to have chosen to let go of the friendship, that I can honestly say.  I have always been a believer in second (and third, and fourth, and fifth, and...) chances, but even my patience has its upper limits.  And sadly, his actions and lack of the proper ability to communicate and comprehend things has gotten in the way of allowing the friendship to actually thrive.

If anyone else there has received unwarranted or unpleasant messages from him, please just Block him from your multiply site.   Reporting his account as one doing "Abuse" might just inspire him to create a new one (or numerous ones) and make things even more a struggle to block out.

Thank you for your understanding.

And yes, ma-ka-karma din yan in time.
Promise!

Some bald fat fuckwit harassed me and my friends at O bar last night.

After civilly informing the management to ask the guy to step out and apologise, we ended up waiting for some number of minutes til closing time before the bastard stepped out.

He steppped out, walked straight towards a cab, and attempted to make his escape.

We blocked him, demanded for an apology and guess what the cocksucker said:

"I don't know you guys, you are confusing me for someone else..."

"I don't know any of you..."

"I'm a well connected guy..."

FUCKER.

Like there's that many fat stupid bald slobs in the bar we were hanging out at.  Putang ina niya.

I'm asking the management to have that bastard banned from the bar.  I am also asking them to get his full name.  Once I get a chance too, also, I am taking his fucking picture and warning the fucking world there's a molester stalking the streets of Malate.  The bar might have been a bar, but it doesn't mean the people inside don't deserve respect.  I don't fucking care how much alcohol anyone drinks inside there.  The fact remains, you don't fucking grope anyone without permission no matter how intoxicated you are.

Punyeta, kamukha niya lovechild ni Uncle Fester at ni Humpty Dumpty.  Desperado ka, tanga pa.   May you rest in pieces.

addendum:
Just as the bastard was leaving in his cab, a number of other people from the bar who heard the commotion outside heard what it was about.  And guess what, marami sa kanila rin na-molest ng putang itang matandang iyon.   Ano, delusional kaming lahat?!??!

Paalam UEN, Paalam

Today I bid farewell to the red car that has been with me for quite some time now.  After helping me learn to drive, allowing me a few times to visit my girlfriend, giving me the chance to help ferry some (back then) new friends to and fro for the NWA 5 event, hang out with buddies all the way in Eastwood, tour the possible drinking spots of Malate, Makati and Cubao, as well as getting into a minor accident with me when I fell asleep while driving home with a friend one time...

UEN, YOU SHALL TRULY BE MISSED.

Today is the day UEN finally leaves the confines of the Garapata's garage and discovers the new loving caretakers waiting for her.  Today is the day she drives away proud and wise with how the world works, now keenly aware of the ineptitude that 90% of the other drivers out there are made of, and armed with a powerful sense of understanding that sometimes, the law and those who supposedly defend it are not in the same boat.

Let me try to write a list of all those who had at one point in time or another enjoyed a ride with me on UEN:

Isha, Fernan, Mika, Mara, Sabby, Urim, Adrian, Alec, Beej, Nick, Jovan, A few Harry Potter kids, Mark, Nina, Hec, Aids, Macy, Barbs, Gold, Lorie, Jeff, Sonny, Tom, Tayan, Chiqui, Rd, Vince, Aldwin, Seth, Eman, Jomar, Don, Dhone, Josh, Andy, Miggy, Johnboy, and a few others whose names I can't recall.

Sigh.

I will miss you much UEN.

And we wil always remember you whenever we see, smell or use feminine wash.

Travel safe.

Meet ABA, my new car!

My apologies to all the fans and supporters (and suppliers of feminine wash) to UEN, but it is time to move on to better things.

And what better thing can there be than ABA, my new car.  (For those not familiar, my friends and I have opted to call vehicles by their plate numbers letters.  My last car had UEN as its plate number.  This one will eventually have ABA).

So there you have it.  ABA is now officially announced in my blog as my new moto.

My congratulations to Tayan, Nina and Tom being the first three people to experience a ride home via ABA.  Nick would be counted too, but I dropped him off along EDSA and not his house, so no.

Still, wish it was the beige shade I wanted instead though.  Silver is too common na kasi.  But then again, it could have been worse... it could have been ebak yellow.

I wonder when my Panda Bear, Isha, will ever be able to experience riding on ABA though.  Hmm.. anyone got an idea how much it would cost to bring one's own car abroad for a few weeks?

Meet ABA, my new car!

My apologies to all the fans and supporters (and suppliers of feminine wash) to UEN, but it is time to move on to better things.

And what better thing can there be than ABA, my new car. (For those not familiar, my friends and I have opted to call vehicles by their plate numbers letters. My last car had UEN as its plate number. This one will eventually have ABA).
