Cloverfield hits Manila theaters very soon!

In a few days, J.J. Abrams experiential monster flick, Cloverfield, finally hits local cinemas.

I am anxiously awaiting a chance to watch this film again, after being given the chance to do so by United International Pictures who included me in the list of those attending the press screening. While I noticed there were some who attended but didn't seem to bother to even blog about the event, I am happy to have been giving the chance to write about the movie and my experience watching it as well.

Again, I stress, for those looking for a movie with the typical Hollywoodisms, like military people talking to the President, scientists finding out the secrets of the monster just at the nick of time, and heroes who actually stand off against the rampaging beast and for some reason, are left alone and unharmed by it, then go rent out a copy of
Roland Emmerich's Godzilla instead. But if you want to actually try something less spoonfeedish, then Cloverfield is a movie you should check out.

The year 2008 seems to be a very ripe year for fandom-related things to enjoy! And it can only get even better!

I do as instructed...

As per Jovan's blogpost, here's my turn to do this.
My god... here's hoping hindi isangdamakmak ang sasagot.
Hehehe

Leave a comment and I'll reply by answering the following.

1. I'll respond with something random about you.
2. I'll tell you what song/movie reminds me of you.
3. I'll pick a flavor of jello to wrestle with you in.
4. I'll say something that only makes sense to you and me.
5. I'll tell you my first/clearest memory of you.
6. I'll tell you what animal you remind me of.
7. I'll ask you something that I've always wondered about you.
8. If I do this for you, you must post this on your journal.

Gamer uses virtual training to save lives

Taken from Yahoo! news.

"Think playing video games is little more than a great way to waste time? Then you haven't met Paxton Galvanek. Last November, the twenty-eight year-old helped rescue two victims from an overturned SUV on the shoulder of a North Carolina interstate. As the first one on the scene, Galvanek safely removed both individuals from the smoking vehicle and properly assessed and treated their wounds, which included bruises, scrapes, head trauma and the loss of two fingers.

His medical background? None - other than what he's learned playing as a medic in the computer game America's Army."

Wow. This is great! And to think its NOT the first time its happened.

IT WAS A TYPICAL FRIDAY WORK DAY FOR ME...

When suddenly, I was overwhelmed by shock today when I glanced at my YM contacts list and saw one of my college buddies have the following status:

NAMEwithheldFORhisPROTECTION - I love my Panda!

So, with a sudden burst of curiousity/shock/horror/intrigue/territorialism, I was about to throw him a huge series of questions as to why he would even dare say such a thing when I remembered that he TOO calls the significant other he loves (as to whether she loves him back, remains to be seen and debated over) his Panda. Well, not Panda like my sweetie is the Panda Bear, but rather (and to para-phrase quote him):

"I call her the word for Panda in Chinese."

(Yes, I admit, actual verbatim words may be different, but the sense is retained). Before I could retort that he should then stick to using that term, he does remind me that he and his Panda have supposedly been using the nickname for the last FOUR years.

So by the unwritten laws of chronological first dibs, they used the nickname first.

Bah.

Bah, I say.

Patricia Raine Mallare Pimentel still remains the one and only Panda Bear in my eyes.
And I love MY Panda Bear.

My Panda Bear ain't Chinese.
She's Pinoy.
A Pinoy and Canadian Panda Bear at that.
:-)

And my Panda Bear loves the rain.

Multply Boycott on the 18th? Not for me.

There's been some talk about boycotting Multiply on the 18th of January to give a voice to the complaints against the limitations on music uploads, downloading and searching that has been effected.

Frankly, I think this call for a boycott is an over-reaction and absolutely unnecessary.

So just letting the word out in advance. If any of my friends plan to join this boycott, feel free to exercise your right. But please, don't try to convince me to join cause I won't.

The world has enough problems.
Not to mention, I myself have enough in my hands to worry about.

Thanks!

Happy Twenty Three Months, Panda Bear!

Amidst the minor panics of car accidents, dropping dollar exchange rates, frustrating officemates, and other trials and complications, we have survived another month to add to our almost two years of being together.

Distance be damned, we're going to survive this and someday be together again!

Missing you so much that the only way to stay sane is to keep myself preoccupied and busy. I cannot wait to find myself in the shores of Canada one day, to call your cellphone and surprise you that I'm already at your doorstep.

I love you, Patricia Raine Mallare Pimentel.

Happy Twenty Three months love!
We've proven them naysayers all wrong.

Some updates:

Had a minor car accident. Thankfully no one was hurt. But definitely, I'm saying goodbye to my shopping fund for a while.

A good thing then, that I saved up some cash working for Skyrocket Interactive, Lowe Advertising's Spank! and other rackets I worked on.

Time to collect on those peeps who owe me money too.

On the other side of the spectrum, LOST fans would be both thrilled and horrified to know that Emilie De Ravin (our darling Claire) has posed in a very... uh... attractive way. Find more photos of our darling little Lost Mommy in the link below.

Lastly, U.P. is now celebrating its Centennial. I am hoping to be able to snag some of the memorabilia for my Panda Bear. But now with my sudden car-less situation, I am not sure how I'll make the sojourn to the north.

Calling to those who can get me something from the Centennial, do let me know. I'll pay you back, I promise!
