SOME UPDATES ON THE GARAPATA's LIFE
Busy busy busy. Hell week is here with the Mano-a-Mano week coming up. Add to that loads of commercials for retail and the like and you have the brewing pot meant for stress build-up. Got a videoconference in the wee hours tomorrow, and Superman Returns in the evening.

Still, I have my health.

My Panda bear had her medical check-up today, a requirement for her coming journey to Canada. She and her family has a lot of other requirements to fulfill before their trip can be a reality. Am really excited and happy for her. There are so much potential waiting there in Canada. So much new experiences and work to engage in. So much culture to dive into. There are... things to consider too, of course, but I think it would be best to just face the music when we get to that point. Lots of pros and cons on both decisions to make, to be frank. And this kind of decision, I would have to admit, has life-changing ramifications.

Still, even with my non-existent chin, my horribly cavernous nostrils and my Kuya Bodjie face, I am happy my Panda bear loves me, tummy, snores and all. And I love her so much too.

AEGIS celebrated an anniversary last weekend, with Vic and Benny Lee working with Marc Reyes to have it at a function room in Globe Tower 2. Beautiful view, with a touch of Silent Hill-esque route to the convention room, the place was a lovely place (even with some of its... lesser qualities). Wasn't able to run Serenity like I planned. Or Orpheus like I prepped as a back-up, having engaged in a session of Senator with Gelo and company, and a round of Kill Doctor Lucky with some new faces.

Then, there was the birthday party of Direk Paolo Dy, which Isha and I attented after celebrating Lemuel's passing of the Board. (Or was it, of the bar? I get confused). Had two doses of Cebu Lechon in one night, beer and lots of shellfish and ended up feeling far too bloated than I should have been. Watched lots of fun commercials care of Pao's iPOD and had a laugh discussing Brokeback, Cebu, and the many events of childhood and college.

This week, planning to see Superman Returns with my sweetie and attend the Fete dela Musique to be held in Mall of Asia this Friday. Here's hoping all goes as planned. Maybe even squeeze in a night to go to the spa.

BEEN A TOUGH BATTLE
Found out my throat has pus from the inside. Been taking these strong antibiotics which happen to also be the same kind usually prescribed to people with STDs and UTI. The counter clerk in Mercury Drug got me my meds, then asked, "Sir, may UTI ka? (Sir, you have UTI?)" to which I looked at him surprisedly and replied, "No, for my throat."
I actually felt a tad assaulted by that. He actually thought he could ask me something so blatantly?! For all I know, he may have wrongly told everyone in Mercury when I left that he thinks I have an STD. Bastard.

I hate being sick.

Thankfully, was able to spend loads of time with my Panda Bear last weekend. She got to see our little negosyo at SM Bicutan as well as learn a bit of Flash. She looked so beautiful in red and even more gorgeous when she looked tired from all the learning! Of course, she'd kill me if I posted the other pictures, so you'll just have to be content with these two:

She also did the impossible and helped me find an ink replacement for my stupid Lexmark printer. For some reason, the Lexmark 17 ink cartridge does not exist in Paranaque, Makati and Quezon city any more, which is annoying since I got the printer from a promo way back when they were giving the printer away for free so long as you bought an ink cartridge. Crap.
But yeah, my sweetie found me a shop that had one!

Only, i can't use my computer:

Well, the short story is this: Neneng (our househelper who can barely speak in Filipino) was cleaning the bathroom in my room. Upstairs, my Mom and Bebie were busy preparing for guests who were due to arrive. Both wondered what took Neneng too long to finish so they asked Fernan, our driver, to go and check. On his way to my room, Fernan realized he could hear water splashing around. For a moment, he thought Neneng actually decided to take a bath in my bathroom.

Instead, it was far more... uh... more.

She broke a pipe by mistake. Water was splashing all over. She was hoping to find some way to fix it on her own. Between laughter and anger, my Mom, Dad and Fernan eventually got her to step out, got the water in control and got some plumber to fix it.

So the lesson is, next time something get's broken, CALL FOR HELP and tell the family it happened.

Wait, you're wondering how the computer figures in all this? Look at the area behind the monitor. That is the bathroom door. I normally keep my CPU and my AVR on the floor. Where do you think all the water went?

Yep.

Let's hope it still runs again.

Just read: ELMER
Gerry Alanguilan's ELMER is definitely a must-read for this year. Chronicling the stories of Jake Gallo, an intelligent and temper-volatile chicken, ELMER does not resort to cheap humor or badly written jokes to stay entertaining and touching at the same time. Resonating the impact Art Spiegelman's MAUS had by using animals as his main characters, Gerry's characters are full of life and personality and yet transcend the usual expectations and archetypes one normally finds in comic books. Whereas most books have the "macho and handsome" lead and the "overly dressed, handsome and mestizo rich guy" as typical characters, Gerry gives each chicken character enough detail to stand out and yet proper attention to detail to still see them as chickens and not bad caricatures of animals.

The dialogue is rich and in some parts, heart-stabbing. The expressions each character portrays to show emotion shows how far Gerry has developed his craft since his other opus, Wasted. The attention to shadows, detail and composition reminds one that ELMER is a work that was meticulously created and not some rushed hack-job (like most of my own work!). With careful consideration of how chickens were treated in the past, one can easily expect some characters (like Farmer Ben) to have secrets soon to be revealed which may change the way you see them.

Congratulations to Gerry for a wonderful read! And yes, I would love to be able to read the second to fourth issues to come.

ELMER is available in Comic Quest.

VERY VERY LATE UPDATES
Work has been overwhelmingly intese this month. With me handling the Mano-A-Mano Pacquiao Larios materials, I've been having very little time to go online or take pictures. Still, life goes on and for those who are wondering, Panda Bear Isha and I are still going strong!

Been getting very little rest, working from 9am to 11pm the last couple of days. On the other hand, its paying off nicely, giving me just enough moolah to buy Isha's mom a present (her Birthday was last night). Here's hoping she appreciates it.

My sweetie is feeling better too, although she still has a cough that won't go away. I'd leave her to give the specifics on this since this is after all her medical history and not mine.

Lost the role of the lead in a student film I was to work in. Now just the "contrabida" in the movie. Oh well. It could have been worse. Should be fun. Short shoot this saturday in Merville. Here's hoping all goes well.

On the RPG side, just ended DC Heroes/Runaways with a bang! We went a different route from DC's Infinite Crisis but I personally think i like our ending more. Started a new game based on Josh Whedon's Firefly/Serenity series. So far its pretty cool with lots of fun! The system is kind of different but very story-friendly too. Global Frequency is still ongoing with loads of new revelations that connect it more to Planetary as well. And lastly, Giovanni Chronicles still hopes that Seth and Aldwin are both free on the same weekend someday to play.

Mom's back from the States and she brings word of Kuya Mike, Ate Ives, Sophie and Tolites/Jam naman. Things are well and good there in Los Angeles. I miss them all dearly and hope to visit them someday. Maybe I'll be lucky and I can bring my Panda Bear with me.

What else ba pa...

Actually madami pa. But it gets confusing on what to focus on at times. Am just so darn busy, I don't have time for my net comics anymore. And many other things.

But life is good.
